ShoreTel Deploys Temasys WebRTC Plug-in

For communication service providers that want to integrate real-time communications, and more specifically WebRTC, not having native support for Internet Explorer and Safari has been a problem. The lack of support for WebRTC by Microsoft and Apple has led companies such as Temasys to create solutions that make both technologies compatible. And for Shortel, the Temasys WebRTC Plug-in for Internet Explorer and Safari is going to power the softphone functionality of its Connect Unified Communication (UC) solution so users can turn their computers into a phone with just a headset and an Internet connection.

The Temasys plug-in replicates the native experience of WebRTC to Internet Explorer and Safari, making it possible to integrate the Shoretel Connect solution. With the addition of these two browsers and Chrome and Firefox, Shoretel will have the four top browsers in the market compatible with the communication solutions it provides for its customers. This gives the company a platform in which users can communicate anytime, anywhere and on any device.

Stefan Zschiegner, Vice President of product management at ShoreTel, said, “Temasys was the only provider who had a comprehensive solution. The Temasys implementation team made the integration painless for our developers and their support team was responsive and knowledgeable. As a result, we are able to bring robust softphone functionality to ShoreTel customers regardless of which browser they chose to use.”

Launched in 2014, the Temasys plug-in has been providing Internet Explorer and Safari users with WebRTC capabilities for millions of users around the world. The Temasys Embedded Real-Time Communications (ERTC) platform makes it possible for business communications applications developers to integrate voice, video, chat and data transfer with unlimited scale and into any app or device.

The company has created a system for integrating the open source WebRTC capability with a complete enterprise-grade carrier-compliant solution designed for simplified integration with easy-to-use APIs and SDKs, along with through documentation.

“ShoreTel is a market leader in Unified Communications that clearly recognizes how browser -based communications for UC is growing due to WebRTC. Their deployment of the plug-ins broadens their reach and enables near ubiquitous use of the Connect service the world over, eliminating the barriers that Safari and IE present,” said Bent Rye, CEO of Temasys.

ShoreTel Connect is going to be able to access all of the capabilities of the Temasys plug-in whether the deployment is hosted, onsite or hybrid. And once the app is connected, users will have multiple collaboration tools that are built into the WebRTC framework, including instant messaging, audio and Web conferencing, peer-to-peer video calling and Web desktop sharing.
