Comings & Goings: TokBox Makes Major Changes, Names Scott Lomond CEO

TokBox, one of the biggest names around when it comes to the growing field of Web-based real time communications (WebRTC), has announced that several of its key executive positions would be experiencing changes. Not only would the company be bringing in a new CEO, but the old CEO would be routed into a new position as well. This was only the start, however, as the company looked to makes some other major changes in the company's lineup.

Under the new system, Scott Lomond—formerly the company's vice president of marketing and business development—would step into the CEO slot, while the company's current CEO, Ian Small, would instead be chairman of the board, carrying on with his CEO duties and position at Telefonica.

Further, Badri Rajasekar—the company's vice president for engineering—was also promoted to chief technology officer at TokBox and is now responsible for everything related to engineering and operations at the company.

New chairman of the board Small, meanwhile, offered up some comments on the recent roster moves, saying, “Scott has demonstrated an amazing talent for working with customers to leverage our OpenTok technology to deliver compelling, real-time video experiences online and in mobile applications. I look forward to supporting Scott as he leads the TokBox team, continuing to set the pace for native WebRTC during an exciting time of innovation and growth in the industry. I would also like to commend Badri on his expanded role as TokBox CTO, where he can continue to apply his industry leading technical expertise, which has been essential to the award-winning features and quality of our OpenTok platform.”

Small will also be delivering the keynote address at the upcoming WebRTC Conference and Expo event. Set to run from June 17 – 19 at Atlanta, Ga.

TokBox's engineering has already made some major accomplishments, so putting Rajasekar in his new role makes sense given the likely impact he's already had in his previous role. Meanwhile, Lomond's promotion will work nicely, especially if TokBox is looking to expand its marketing efforts.

TokBox looks to have a powerful new executive suite in the making, which should make the next several months with the company exciting to watch. It will be particularly interesting to see what the company brings to the WebRTC Conference and Expo in June, as well as what the rest of the participants have in mind.
