WIT Software Platform Brings WebRTC Features to All Browsers

This week in Barcelona, Mobile World Congress is bringing together tech and telecom giants to share the future of mobility, which means a lot of abbreviations: VoIP, RCS, LTE, HD, Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G are commonly thrown around with new products and trends. One abbreviation that is relatively new to the game is WebRTC, which is also making some noise in the mobile world this week.

WIT Software introduced its new WIT WebRTC platform, which includes WebRTC Gateway and Web Communicator and provides real-time communication capabilities to compliant browsers – for now that is Chrome, Firefox and Opera – as well as non-compliant browsers, Safari and Internet Explorer. For the latecomer browsers from Apple and Microsoft, WIT uses HTML5 and Flash technology to transmit audio and video. The media transport is conducted through the RTMP protocol from Flash that is converted to the RTP protocol at the WIT gateway. Flash is also used to enable fallback support.

The WebRTC gateway from WIT Software aims to be a “bridge between WebRTC and telecom.” In addition to enabling real-time communication in any browser, it delivers that communication to any smartphone or tablet with an RCS or VoIP application.

WIT Web Communicator offers a variety of features and functionality, including file transfer, social integration, screen sharing, HD voice and video calls, contact discovery and group messaging. In addition, it features security protocols, including Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP), SIPoTLS, MSRPoTLS, Real-time Messaging Protocol Secure (RTMPS), HTTPS, Secure WebSockets and Data Transport Layer Security (DTLS).

The company says this platform is a great solution for contact centers and IT support centers to provide remote assistance. Agents can leverage features like screen sharing, HD audio and video, mobile device integration and IP messaging to make the Web one of the first layers of company/customer interaction.

The company also provides a JS SDK to facilitate third-party development of Web applications.

"WebRTC is gaining momentum in the industry since it opens several opportunities to integrate real-time communications in web-browsers,” Luis Silva, CEO of WIT Software said in a statement. “However, real world services cannot rely on end-users’ awareness of their browser support for WebRTC. Those services have to work seamlessly on any other browser that is not compliant with WebRTC. We are very excited with the launch of our new WIT WebRTC Gateway since we are solving an important problem and we will provide a framework to develop web applications with communication assets that work in all the browsers of the Internet.”
