The growing popularity and adoption of WebRTC seems to be indicative of an overall shift toward more open Web communications. Indeed, with users turning to multiple devices throughout the day for work and play, the ability to continue communications seamlessly across those devices has become a necessary feature.
Take, for example, Dinamotxt, a tablet messaging app developed by Openmind, which isn't WebRTC-based, but is also striving toward multidevice messaging. Indeed, the CTIA 2013 e-Tech Awards finalist app, recently announced a new feature: the ability to text from any Web browser.
Dinamotxt was launched in April and is free to all Android tablet users from the Google Play app store. The app focuses on reliability and ease of use, which Openmind CEO, Alex Duncan, says sets Dinamotxt above even paid messaging apps.
Now, Dinamotxt offers users the ability to send, receive and delete texts directly from any desktop Web browser, opening up the platform to hundreds of millions of new users worldwide.
"It is now a given that we should be able to text from every connected device and to reflect this shift from a single device per user to any device, anywhere, we continue to roll out new features to enhance Dinamotxt," said Duncan in a statement. "Dinamotxt is built using our carrier-grade messaging platform and offers the most secure, reliable and scalable Android texting app in the market for free."
Indeed, Dinamotxt is built on Openmind's powerful mobile communications platform that currently handles more than one billion SMS messages per day and is trusted by mobile operators, inter-carriers and IP telecom players.
The inclusion of desktop support isn't the end of Dinamotxt's expansion — far from it. In fact, Openmind recently made its Open API available to developers, allowing the creation of apps using SMS Inbox, IP messaging, RCS, VoIP and, appropriately, WebRTC.
