WebRTC is the Future of Online Communication

Online communication has gone through major transformation over the years. What started with Yahoo Messenger has expanded and progressed to applications like Skype where you text, call and video chat.

Just a year back, Google had almost pioneered the technology of online communication through the development of Google video chat in the year 2008. It later got integrated into Google Hangout where you can perform the same functions as Skype. The WebRTC is what the future is made of, and even if you like playing online casino games with a mohegan sun casino bonus code 2018, you would know just how important online communication can be.

Google relied on the eco-cancellation technology and codecs of a company called GIPS which they acquired in the process of developing their product. But soon they released the solution as a open source application where different developers from around the world could contribute towards it.

Ericsson got hold of the technology and released the Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC) protocol in 2011.

Uniqueness of WebRTC

All video calling solitions like Skype depend on download of software programs, plug-ins or applications to run them. But WebRTC doesn’t require all of that- you can just use your browser and use WebRTC to chat or video call.

Chrome was the first browser that supported WebRTC when it was launched in 2012. Soon Firefox followed suit and then was joined by the Norwegian browser Opera. Microsoft in 2015 provided support for WebRTC with the introduction of the Edge browser.

Apple was the last to make their browser compatible with Edge browser with the release of Safari 11. All this time there was a gap in adoption of WebRTC as Safari was the most used browser after Chrome. Now WebRTC can look to get a wide adoption as it provides a seamless solution to online video chatting from different devices which support internet browsers.

The Future of WebRTC

More than 5 billion users today access some form of social media that allow online communication and video chatting. Now that Apple supports WebRTC, we can see a transformation towards one touch video calling option which doesn’t need any complex plugins or clunky downloads.

You don’t need to tweak the protocols for different browsers as they now support WebRTC out of the box. There’s no need for any debugging or troubleshooting or need for constant updates to suit the borwsers- you can just call and share to your heart’s content.

WebRTC is here to stay and going to take the place of current solutions like Skype in the future. We will see enterprise scale adoptions of something that was once a project of a coder.

It doesn’t matter whether you are looking to video chat with your friends, family or that someone special, we all know just how important it is to keep it streamlined. You wouldn’t want stuttering and bad connection – and this is where WebRTC aims to score, enabling us to improve video connectivity.
