As usual though, the goal was to explore all opportunities and I went through the various shows that I support in one way or another. When it came to WebRTC, I heard Ian tell me this was an important initiative at W3C and that Dominique Hazaël-Massieux was the lead.
One of the industries expected to significantly benefit from WebRTC is the contact center. WebRTC enables organizations to make websites an extended channel of the contact center, and use real-time communication services like live chat, audio and video call and screen sharing right from the browser. Live chat is one of the most commonly used components of communications online today, making it easy for visitors to talk to a company representative immediately, and speeding up the process to find information and answers.
Conference calls will always be a part of business communication. What's changing is the methodology and technology used to make conference calls more feature-rich, flexible, easy to use and seamless. It's no surprise that everything we do is shifting to the Web - IP communications has already been making great strides into business communication systems and revolutionizing the way these organizations and users communicate. The future is also online, and takes this shift in communications to the next level, by eliminating the barrier to download anything in order to communicate. Users will be able to communicate in real-time just by using their browsers.
Ericsson Research introduced Bowser in December 2012 as the world's first WebRTC-enabled browser for mobile devices. Last week, the company announced it was discontinuing Bowser, which led to some disappointment from users. But the disappointment didn't last long, as Ericsson introduced a new standard for WebRTC-enabled solutions.
Voiceserve, a telecommunications and softswitch company, is the parent company of VoipSwitch, a provider of VoIP softswitch platform solutions. VoipSwitch is returning from an exciting week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where the company exhibited rich communication services (RCS) products and its Vippie dialer, a white-label messenger application that enables free audio and video calls, messaging, file sharing and more.
