Congratulations to Satya Nadella on your new role as CEO and the Microsoft team for having a new CEO who is focused on change and reinvigoration. Microsoft is a strong team with a reputation for innovation and market leadership. I thought it would be good to write a note about 2014 as Mr. Nadella takes the CEO reigns. (Btw, 2013 sure seemed to be a good year for Microsoft; revenue was upyou're your stock price went up by over 34 percent...congratulations to all.)
joyn is a service concept that was promoted by the GSMA a few years back as a way for carriers to compete with over-the-top (OTT) solutions. More compelling at that time (and also, perhaps, today) was the fact that joyn was an association solution, which meant that it could join internationally across carriers (as far as I know, though, MetroPCS was the only association member that marketed joyn). At its heart, joyn is a Rich Communication Services (RCS) solution, a fact that is mentioned in Acision's description for its Fuze WebRTC client, which is offered as a white label service for carriers or enterprises.
Ericsson Research introduced Bowser in December 2012 as the world's first WebRTC-enabled browser for mobile devices. Last week, the company announced it was discontinuing Bowser, which led to some disappointment from users. But the disappointment didn't last long, as Ericsson introduced a new standard for WebRTC-enabled solutions.
Last week, Dialogic and Tropo announced a partnership to bring PowerMedia XMS' rich media processing for real-time video with Tropo's platform, which enables users to build phone and messaging applications and integrate real-time communications to applications. This week, we're seeing the power of PowerMedia XMS go one step further with demonstrations from five partners at Mobile World Congress.
