They say that WebRTC brings real-time communications to the Web. It enables adding VoIP to websites. There are many different ways vendors are utilizing WebRTC, but it seems that lately, everyone is into buttons.
This is an exciting next step in the evolution of WebRTC; the move from a developer sandbox to an accepted technology with certified developer skills. The combination of Web and on-site training will give a broad range of developers access to the WebRTC capability set and accelerate the adoption and use. There's plenty of news coming out about Web-based real-time communications (WebRTC), and it comes out on a fairly regular basis. But amid all the news about new communications systems and technologies and applications powered by this new protocol, there is some key support absent. That's leaving some to wonder if WebRTC is really the powerhouse it appears to be, or if it's simply a flash in the pan that's selling too hard.
The AMR-WB (AMR Wideband) codec is the de facto standard for HD voice in the cellular arena. It has been turned up in over 50 3G networks (and growing) and is the standard codec for Voice over LTE (VoLTE). However, onerous licensing issues for software developers are limiting its proliferation beyond cell phones and mobile networks, opening the way for the open-source Opus codec and Fraunhofer's "Full HD voice" AAC codec.
WebRTC enables people to communicate with each other over an Internet browser with no requirements to download any software, application or browser plug-in. Imagine Skype, but without having to download it. It has been touted by many as a game changer and a disruptive technology for communications, but why?
